Musk said the most likely outcome is not poverty. It is an age of abundance — not only universal basic income, but universal high income. With robots and superintelligence, everyone in the world can have better medical care than anyone in that courtyard, including Musk himself. “Wouldn’t that be wonderful?” Jobs will change, Musk said. Jobs have always changed. Buildings used to be full of people doing bank interest by hand. Nobody wants that job back. Roles will evolve. And as President Trump has said, unemployment has not gone up. Demand for people is tremendous. The future, Musk said, is one you would want if you could look ahead.

1. 11:24 a.m. Pacific — the pledge

At 2:24 p.m. Eastern (11:24 a.m. Pacific), President Trump posted the signed sheet on Truth Social. By evening the post showed about 2,120 retruths and 7,270 likes. The title on the page is Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities. The center signature is Donald J. Trump, President of the United States.

The text says: in order to build a positive future for the American people and the world, every company is responsible for developing its own technology safely, in a way that builds trust with customers and the public. Firms that train and deploy frontier models must have internal processes so the system behaves as intended, and so problems are found and fixed at once. On top of that, four layers:

The last lines on the page matter. The companies will meet regularly to set standards. Over time, it may make sense to write these steps into law or regulation. Whether that happens or not, the signers say the controls and audits are required if the future is to be safe. President Trump called the paper morally binding. Johnson called it a statement of principles, voluntary on the industry’s side. It is not a statute. It does not write a fine. The force is the names on the page.

2. 2:11 p.m. Pacific — the order

At 5:11 p.m. Eastern (2:11 p.m. Pacific), President Trump posted the executive order. About 1,530 retruths and 5,050 likes by evening. Section 1 says the modern field was born in the United States. Seventy years on, the frontier systems do more than imitate a slice of a human mind. They open work that used to be impossible in science, medicine, and almost every other field. The government’s vocabulary, the order says, should match that. This is not merely artificial intelligence. It is a new era of Super Intelligence.

Section 2: to the maximum extent permitted by law, executive departments and agencies shall use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in place of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, policy documents, and other non-statutory papers inside the executive branch. Old regulations, old presidential actions, contracts, grants, and historical files do not have to be reprinted.

Within 60 days, the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology is to send President Trump proposed legislative language for a federal definition of Super Intelligence that matches what the machines can now do. The order must be carried out consistent with law and available money. It creates no new right to sue the United States.

President Trump had told reporters the rename paper would go out about 5 p.m. Eastern. It did. The State Department had already told some diplomats to use the new term. Last week at the United Nations President Trump said whoever wins SI wins. America leads China now, President Trump said, and America will keep the lead.

Two nights earlier President Trump had dinner with Amodei. Today Amodei signed in the same room as Musk. The extinction story — AI taking over the world, destroying humanity — is still what President Trump has called a hoax. The factories stay here. The power plants get built. The name on the government paper changes so the country stops talking as if the thing were fake.

A voluntary accord is not a statute. Say that once and then look at who sat down. Musk, Huang, Pichai, Amodei, Zuckerberg, Brockman — the people who actually train the models — put their names under four layers of watch, including biosecurity and chemical threats. The pledge, the order, and the clip say the country will run the machines — and the people will eat better.

The order does not rewrite the dictionary for the whole country. The order tells the executive branch what word to use on its own paper, and asks for a legal definition in sixty days. That is how a government that wants the lead talks: change the name in the files it controls, keep the plants running, tell the companies to police themselves before Congress writes a pause.

Super intelligence is an industry larger than the last industrial revolution, if the country does not talk itself into turning the lights off.

Keeping this one means the four layers are real work, not letterhead — and that SI on a government letterhead is a name for a race already underway, not a slogan taped over a fear.
