Elon Musk posted at 1:57 a.m. PDT this morning: “Turns out the future does have flying cars.” The post carried a 15-second night video. A white low sports car lifted off from the right side of a lot, sprayed white smoke and blue flame, flew over a row of parked Tesla vehicles, flipped in the air, and dropped into the smoke. The other cars stayed still. The post has more than 560,000 likes and more than 33 million views.

The day before, Musk had posted “The whole world will watch this,” quoting a post that was waiting for the next-generation Roadster unveiling. The 2017 Roadster already promised 0–60 mph in 1.9 seconds. Since then Musk had talked about a Tesla–SpaceX collaboration, having the car fly, and getting the time below one second, calling that “the least interesting part” of the car. The video he posted this morning is the flying part.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, replied: “The FSD version of this will be something:) congrats!” The reply is his. The car in the video is the one Musk showed.

About 10 hours ago Musk posted “One of my favorite shows as a kid!” He quoted a post that said Musk had just made Turbo Boost a reality, and that a bunch of guys that age had been waiting their whole lives for this. The images paired a black-and-white still of Michael Knight in the cockpit of KITT from the 1980s show Knight Rider with a 2026 night frame of a white car lifting on blue flame. In the show, KITT’s Turbo Boost let the car jump or fly over obstacles. Musk’s line is only that it was one of his favorite shows.

At 4:13 a.m. PDT Musk posted “My OG Roadster is still orbiting Mars and Earth,” quoting Tesla’s post “Roadster and a rocket have shared a ride before.” That was the February 6, 2018 Falcon Heavy test flight. The payload was Musk’s personal first-generation Roadster, placed in a solar orbit that reaches near Mars, with a spacesuit dummy named Starman in the driver’s seat. The 2018 flight is public record. Today’s line is that the car is still up there.

An independent account posted a 70-second animation breaking down the upside-down run and the launch. It said the car used controlled thrust, not like a plane, with 10 nozzles fed by tanks of compressed air, about 250 kilograms, and that the system could refill itself. Tesla has claimed compressed air and no special fuel. Those details are in the animation. Musk’s own line is only that the future does have flying cars.

A flying car is not a stunt for a night. It is a machine that lifts, turns, and lands on its own wheels. The video is short. The point is long. People who build cool things are still building them. The next generation can still watch and start sketching.
