President Trump Strongly Pushes for Permanent Daylight Saving Time Bill, Urges Senate to Pass Quickly

U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social today, strongly pushing the Sunshine Protection Act and urging the Senate to pass it as soon as possible so that Daylight Saving Time can be made permanent nationwide, completely ending the practice of changing clocks twice a year.
众议院已于2026年7月14日以308票对117票通过该法案（H.R. 139）。法案由佛罗里达州共和党众议员Vern Buchanan主导，核心内容是将目前的夏令时固定为全年标准时间，不再“春季调快、秋季调慢”。目前全年使用标准时的州（如夏威夷和亚利桑那州大部分地区）可选择继续保持现状。
The House of Representatives passed the bill (H.R. 139) on July 14, 2026, by a vote of 308 to 117. Sponsored by Florida Republican Rep. Vern Buchanan, the core of the bill is to make the current Daylight Saving Time the permanent year-round standard, eliminating the “spring forward, fall back” changes. States that currently observe permanent standard time (such as Hawaii and most of Arizona) may choose to continue doing so.

President Trump stated on Truth Social:
“For many years, the vast majority of Americans have asked to make Daylight Saving Time permanent, but no previous administration has been able to get it done—until now. I am proud to announce that the House of Representatives has passed the bill, and it has now gone to the Senate for final approval.”

He emphasized that Americans are tired of changing clocks twice a year—it is troublesome, inconvenient, and costly. Especially for the large clocks on towers in cities and states, each adjustment requires heavy equipment and costs millions of dollars. President Trump also cited medical, crime, and economic studies showing that ending the biannual time change and providing an extra hour of evening sunlight would help reduce robbery and murder rates, lower car accidents (especially those involving pedestrians), reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke, alleviate seasonal depression, make it safer for children to walk home from school, increase family time, boost sports, fitness, tourism, retail, and restaurant industries, and save energy costs.

President Trump clearly called: “This is an issue that Republicans, Democrats, and Independents can unite behind. I am asking Republican Senators to release their holds and allow the bill to pass quickly. The Sunshine Protection Act must be passed ASAP!”
