FBI Attempted to Recruit Suspected Chinese Spy Fang Fang as an Informant

据Just the News报道，美国白宫政府透明工作组于8月17日解密并公开了FBI内部备忘录。备忘录显示，FBI曾试图招募被怀疑是中国情报人员的方芳（Christine Fang，代号“Rusty Thumbs”锈拇指）作为线人。
According to Just the News, the White House Government Transparency Task Force declassified and released internal FBI memos on August 17. The memos show that the FBI had attempted to recruit Fang Fang (Christine Fang, codenamed “Rusty Thumbs”), a suspected Chinese intelligence operative, as an informant.
方芳的父母据悉均为中国情报官员。在FBI试图发展她的同时，方芳正与加州民主党众议员埃里克·斯瓦尔韦尔（Eric Swalwell）保持亲密关系，并向其办公室输送实习生及非法政治捐款。斯瓦尔韦尔后来向FBI承认了这段关系。方芳最终在调查期间逃回中国，并未被起诉。
Fang Fang’s parents are believed to be Chinese intelligence officers. While the FBI was attempting to recruit her, Fang Fang was engaged in an intimate relationship with California Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell, and was placing interns in his office as well as channeling illegal political donations. Swalwell later admitted the relationship to the FBI. Fang Fang eventually fled back to China during the investigation and was never charged.

In contrast, while the Chinese Communist Party occasionally exposes the corruption of a few officials, these are often selective cases. The truly dirty and systemic crimes committed by CCP officials and the government — such as large-scale human rights persecution, torture, and forced disappearances — are usually tightly covered up. Even the truth behind ordinary citizens’ wrongful cases is difficult to uncover, let alone systemic crimes of the regime. Under an authoritarian system, the people see almost no hope for change. In the United States, however, the Trump administration has been able to make such investigative materials public, allowing the public to know the truth. This is one of the important differences between a democratic system and an authoritarian system, and also reflects the Trump administration’s positive efforts in information transparency.
因此，美国人民应当继续支持川普总统及其政府，坚定推动拨乱反正，让美国再次伟大。
Therefore, American people should continue to support President Trump and his administration, and firmly push for the correction of past wrongs, so that America can be great again.
