On the afternoon of October 23, two former senior FBI officials, Nikki Floris and Bradley Benavides, surrendered to authorities after being charged with lying to Congress. Both had held leadership roles in the FBI’s now-disbanded Foreign Influence Task Force during the 2020 election. They are accused of making false statements in 2023 testimony about their knowledge of and involvement in the bureau’s investigations into Hunter Biden’s laptop.

Prosecutors say Floris claimed she was not involved in any discussions about Hunter Biden while leading the task force, and Benavides claimed he only learned the FBI had the laptop from a Wikipedia article in 2023. Documentary evidence and communications contradict those statements. One of them privately claimed to be “running a shadow government.” FBI Director Kash Patel and U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced the charges.

Later the same day, President Trump responded to the arrests. He said: “You know, they’re CROOKED PEOPLE. They’re DIRTY COPS. Comey is a dirty cop too.” He added that the two had tried to defend Hunter Biden and were now in cuffs, and that Comey should be next.
