The figures track Friday’s August jobs report. The White House said August added 162,000 jobs — about triple the forecast, the second-largest monthly gain of the second term — and that private-sector jobs had now passed one million. Manufacturers added 16,000 in the month, the strongest monthly gain in three years. Construction added 22,000. Factory-construction jobs are up nearly 100,000 since the term began. Unemployment held near 4.1%. Federal employment is at its lowest share of the workforce on record: the payroll was cut so the new hiring would sit in plants and on sites.
