At about 10:25 a.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday, September 1 (1:25 p.m. Eastern), President Donald J. Trump posted on Truth Social that the United States is, “as we speak,” striking Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz. He called the strikes “large and powerful,” in retaliation for an Iranian attempt to seed the strait with mines and for eight missiles fired at a U.S. base in Jordan.

美国中央司令部在X平台说，美军于美东时间当天中午12时开始打击伊朗境内伊斯兰革命卫队目标，针对近期对霍尔木兹商船和驻地区美军的企图。这是8月30日至31日拉拉克岛交火之后，美方再次对伊朗目标动手。
U.S. Central Command said on X that American forces began striking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets in Iran at noon Eastern Time. The command tied the action to recent IRGC attempts against commercial shipping in the strait and against U.S. forces in the region. It is the first acknowledged U.S. strike on Iranian targets since the Larak Island exchange of Aug. 30–31.

President Trump wrote that the strait “currently has no mines” — “They have been completely removed or detonated!” — and that all eight missiles at the Jordan base were “successfully knocked down.” If the “failed Nation of Iran” retaliates for this “very justified attack,” he said, it “will be hit again at a much harder and higher level,” but that “will not be the biggest attack of them all, that is waiting in the wings,” and when it is over “there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

On the afternoon of Aug. 30 the U.S. struck two launchers on Larak Island, saying IRGC crews were preparing to seed mines. Overnight into Aug. 31, Iran fired ballistic missiles at King Hussein and Al Azraq bases in Jordan; Jordan said it intercepted eight. On Aug. 31 President Trump told Fox News, “we’ll hit them hard.” Tuesday’s strikes follow that warning.

The Strait of Hormuz is a chokepoint for world oil. Washington says the main channel is clear of mines. Iran’s foreign minister had called the Larak strike a violation of the U.N. Charter and the attack on Jordan “legitimate self-defense.” As of afternoon Pacific Time on Sept. 1, neither side had issued a full casualty or target list for the new round.
