On the evening of September 18, President Trump posted two messages in sequence. One was a Greenland security agreement with the Kingdom of Denmark and Greenland. The other was a list titled “TOP 25 TRUMP ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF TERM THREE,” covering 2025–2026. Trump wrote that the United States has entered an agreement giving America permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland, at no cost to the United States. The United States will forever have the ability to do what is necessary to secure Greenland and America. No U.S. adversary may have a base, a military presence, or make sensitive investments in Greenland without express written U.S. approval. He called it an “Infinite Life” agreement — no end date — and said a large military presence will begin in the appropriate parts of the island.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said the three parties will sign next week at the United Nations General Assembly. She said the deal strengthens common security in the Arctic and the North Atlantic, and recognizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom and the right of the Greenlandic people to self-determination. Danish and Greenlandic parliaments still must act before it takes force. The full text is not yet public. This expands the 1951 defense arrangement. It is not a transfer of sovereignty.

For more than a hundred years, presidents knew Greenland sat on America’s northern door and did nothing conclusive. President Trump closed it. The United States now holds permanent security control, a veto on adversary bases and sensitive money, and the right to build the force the island needs — at no cost to the American taxpayer. Denmark keeps sovereignty. Greenlanders keep self-determination. The American people keep the gate. That is statecraft, not a slogan.
