Homeland Security Investigations searched the Washington, D.C.-area home of Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar on Monday morning. The Justice Department confirmed that agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation. A person familiar with the investigation told Reuters the probe relates to alleged immigration fraud, and that part of it concerns paperwork filled out by Omar’s late father when she was a child. Omar called the search an attempt to weaponize federal law enforcement and target political enemies. She has not been charged.

The New York Post reported today that Omar’s congressional staff got her birth year changed in public records after she was elected to Congress. The Minnesota Legislative Reference Library had listed her birth date as October 4, 1981, the same date used by Wikipedia, the Biographical Directory of the United States Congress, and outlets including the BBC, throughout her time in the Minnesota House and into her first months in Congress. On May 17, 2019, the library director wrote in an email that Omar’s staff informed them the year was incorrect and requested the change to 1982. The year matters because citizenship derived through a parent requires meeting the legal conditions before turning 18. If she was born in 1981, she would have been 18 or 19 in 2000, not 17. That closes the window for derivation. It does not by itself prove she is not a citizen. She could have naturalized later on her own. What is questioned is whether the path she has described matches the record that existed before the change.

President Trump asked today why Ilhan Omar reported a net worth of up to $30 million a short time ago, and then immediately said she had made a mistake and it was really $100,000. He asked whether her accountant had first reported money that was stolen from fraudulent activities in Minnesota, and whether she was forced to disavow the figure because she could not explain where that much money came from. He asked where her house, her cars, and her place in Washington came from. The 2025 disclosure covering 2024 valued two companies held by her husband, Rose Lake Capital and eStCru, in the millions to tens of millions. In April 2026 she amended the filing. The couple’s combined reported assets were revised to between about $18,000 and $95,000, and both companies were listed as having no net value after liabilities. Her office said the earlier filing had not properly accounted for the businesses’ liabilities. No public evidence has been presented that fraud money from the Minnesota Feeding Our Future scandal reached her or her husband.
