Oracle has reportedly cancelled a computing lease with Tencent worth approximately $7 billion following pressure from President Trump’s administration. Separately, the United States, the United Kingdom and eight other countries issued a joint statement criticizing the use of Hong Kong’s National Security Law after democracy activist Joshua Wong received a new ten-year prison sentence.
甲骨文据报在川普总统政府施压后，取消了与腾讯价值约70亿美元的算力租约。另据官方声明，美国、英国等十国在民主活动人士黄之锋被新判十年监禁后，联合批评香港国安法被用于打压政治表达与参与。
Reuters reported on November 4, citing the Financial Times, that the five-year agreement covered multiple Oracle data centers in Southeast Asia. It would have given Tencent access to approximately 100,000 advanced AI chips, making it the company’s largest overseas computing lease. The arrangement concerned access to computing capacity, not the direct sale of 100,000 chips to Tencent.

According to the report, US officials approached Oracle to express concerns about the deal. Tencent also received visits from senior officials in Guangdong, who urged the company to support domestically produced Chinese chips. Reuters said it could not immediately independently verify the report, and Oracle, Tencent and the White House had not responded to its requests for comment at the time of publication.

In Hong Kong, the High Court’s Court of First Instance sentenced Wong to ten years’ imprisonment on November 5 for “conspiracy to commit collusion with foreign countries or with external elements to endanger national security.” A Hong Kong government statement confirmed that he had pleaded guilty on September 2. The government defended the sentence, describing the offence as grave.

A joint statement published by the UK Foreign Office on November 6, from the foreign ministries of Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States, described Wong’s case as a further example of the National Security Law being used to “target individuals for political expression and participation.” The ten countries called for an immediate end to all unjust prosecutions under the law and urged China and Hong Kong to uphold their international commitments and honour the rights and freedoms guaranteed under the Sino-British Joint Declaration.
英国外交部11月6日公布澳大利亚、加拿大、法国、德国、意大利、日本、荷兰、新西兰、英国与美国外交部门的联合声明，指出黄之锋案再次显示，国安法被用于“针对个人的政治表达与参与”。十国要求立即停止该法下所有不公起诉，并敦促中国及香港当局履行国际承诺，尊重《中英联合声明》保障的香港人民的权利与自由。
Tianwang Comment: A Tianwang volunteer recounts that a QQ account used for more than twenty years was banned, despite containing records of personal growth and everyday life. The volunteer attributes the ban to posts and images exposing abuses by the Chinese Communist Party government. Commercial interests in advanced technology must not become a reason to overlook censorship and political repression. Discussions about companies’ access to advanced computing should also take account of ordinary people’s freedom to preserve their memories, express their views and participate in public life.
