A November 7 post quoted President Trump’s Truth Social statement citing 3,600 votes for Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. and 4,846 for Gerald Heikes. He argued that adding those votes to incumbent Republican Senator Dan Sullivan’s tally would put the senator ahead by thousands. “The Alaska Race is OVER. Dan Sullivan WON, BY A LOT!” President Trump wrote, also alleging that Heikes had been fraudulently placed in the race.

Sullivan Jr. initially emailed a request to appear as “Dan S. Sullivan”—using the incumbent senator’s “S,” rather than his own “J.” The division also cited his switch to Republican registration two days before filing, similarities between the candidates’ websites, and a consultant who had long supported Democratic candidates. Taken together, the division concluded that his filing was intended to confuse or mislead voters and disqualified him.

Courts subsequently overturned the exclusion, ruling that the division’s additional “good-faith” candidacy requirement lacked a basis in the governing law. The Alaska Supreme Court affirmed his access to the ballot. Sullivan Jr. denied contact with her campaign.

The inquiry has reached the federal grand-jury stage. Heikes acknowledged that an operative had suggested he run for Senate, but denied being recruited to siphon votes. Peltola has denied knowledge of recruitment efforts. The criminal inquiry remains an investigation, not a finding of guilt.

Under that process, ballots for eliminated candidates transfer according to voters’ next valid rankings. Tianwang Comment: President Trump’s concerns about candidate recruitment cannot fairly be dismissed as speculation based only on similar names. The ballot-name request, reported recruitment communications and criminal inquiry provide concrete grounds for demanding answers. Eligibility to appear on a ballot does not place recruitment, financing or possible voter deception beyond scrutiny. Investigators should establish who organized the effort, where the money came from and whether laws were broken, and make their findings public. Protecting voters requires both investigating possible manipulation and respecting their recorded choices.
