Trump Strongly Responds to EU’s $1 Billion Fine on Google: Warns of Section 301 Investigation and High Tariffs

On July 24, 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a strong response to the European Union’s recent approximately $1 billion fine against Google. He accused the EU of imposing long-term discriminatory and illegal fines on American technology companies, and warned that he would immediately launch a Section 301 investigation while possibly imposing high tariffs on the EU.
On July 23, the European Commission announced that it had fined Google a total of approximately €890 million (about $1 billion) for violating the Digital Markets Act (DMA). This is one of the significant penalties imposed on Google since the Act came into effect. Previously, the EU had already issued massive fines against several other major U.S. tech giants, including Apple, Meta, and Amazon.
In his statement, Trump pointed out that the EU had previously fined Apple $15 billion, Meta $3 billion, and Amazon $2.5 billion.
