At 1:06 p.m. Pacific Time on September 18, the White House posted: the Trump Administration is extending Most-Favored-Nation (MFN) drug pricing to every state Medicaid program. The Oval Office video ran about 1 minute 29 seconds. By Saturday the post showed about 3,620 likes and 166,000 views. A later White House post put the official savings number at $64.3 billion.

What “most-favored-nation” means

Same brand-name pill. America used to pay more than other rich countries. MFN says the U.S. price cannot sit above the lowest price those countries already pay. Medicaid is the joint federal-state program for low-income families, children, seniors, and the disabled — about 70 million people.

President Trump said the MFN deals now officially reach all 50 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico. The program name is GENEROUS. Drugmakers give extra rebates so Medicaid’s final price does not exceed the MFN price. The model covers hundreds of brand-name drugs, including cancer, diabetes, and asthma medicines. The White House said Medicaid has already received one million free prescriptions of Eliquis, a heart drug.

President Trump said it could run to $100 billion. CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz said high drug bills after rebates were crowding out schools, roads, and rural care. Health Secretary RFK Jr. stood in the room.

As of Friday the Administration listed agreements with 26 manufacturers, covering about 89–90% of the branded market: Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk, Amgen, Merck, Novartis, Johnson & Johnson, AbbVie and others. Broader MFN deals are projected by the White House at more than $600 billion in savings, and $529 billion for government programs over a decade. Direct-to-patient discounts also sit on TrumpRx. Nine more company deals were announced August 31.

In the video he said some discounts reach 90%. America, he said, used to be a laughingstock on price; now it should pay the lowest prices in the world. He said the press will not report it. He also said every state can put the extra billions into other health care — or something else.

Drugmakers still say the policy threatens future research. Deal texts are not all public. Those are industry and expert caveats. The official action Friday is: all states are in.

For years American patients paid the high price while other countries paid less for the same pill. President Trump’s order is simple: match the lowest rich-country price, and give that price to Medicaid. Low-income families do not get a speech. The state budget gets a lower bill. Taxpayers get the savings.
