U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has pushed back against calls for his impeachment, defending his overhaul of the Pentagon while urging service members to remain focused on their duties. “They attack me, they attack us because we are effective,” he said. President Trump subsequently shared a supportive post highlighting Hegseth’s response and his message directly to the troops.

In a video statement posted by @SecWar on November 5, Hegseth said, “Just like the president, we don’t back down.” He characterized the impeachment effort as political theater intended to destroy opponents. Deseret News reported that Republican Representative Thomas Massie planned to reintroduce articles of impeachment when Congress returned.

Hegseth argued that resistance to his leadership stemmed from changes his team had made: “Because we tore down their sacred cows one by one, and without apology.” He cited the removal of diversity, equity and inclusion programs and changes in military leadership among his actions. His “sacred cows” description referred to policies and practices he regarded as treated as untouchable.

On November 6, Hegseth also posted “Patriots in control.” President Trump subsequently shared commentary on Truth Social by Jake, @JakeTBird, arguing that Washington could tolerate a failing Pentagon but not someone challenging its “sacred cows” and refusing to apologize. Jake’s post urged viewers to watch Hegseth’s response, especially his message to service members.

In the message to service members, also circulated in a short video on November 7, Hegseth said: “To the troops: Don’t blink. Ignore the noise. Never hesitate.” He continued: “You see, all this is politics. You do real things. So stay the course.”

Tianwang Comment: Political scrutiny should test decisions against evidence and the law, rather than substitute personal attacks for substantive debate. Reforms should be judged by whether they improve military readiness and serve the country.Supporting service members means enabling them to carry out lawful duties without being drawn into partisan confrontation.
