Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has fired Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia after he reportedly failed three polygraphs about leaking classified information to the press. Sylvia is now under investigation over leaks concerning the Iran war, the Russia-Ukraine war, and other matters. The case has been referred to the Department of Justice. He purportedly got around the Pentagon’s escort rules for reporters by meeting journalists outside the building.

On the same day, President Trump pushed back against Democratic talk of impeaching or removing Hegseth. He said: “I think it’s terrible. All they do is they talk about impeaching everybody!” He added that if Republicans wanted to play that game, they could play it just as well. Trump stated that Hegseth is doing a great job, calling him a great warrior and one of the best in the position in many years.

Media efforts over the past year and a half to drive a wedge between Trump and Hegseth have not succeeded. Hegseth remains in place, and the cleanup of leakers inside the Pentagon continues.
