On September 15 President Trump posted on Truth Social about the July 13, 2024 shooting at the Butler, Pennsylvania rally. At capture the post had about 5,290 retruths, 17,000 likes and 2,170 replies. Commentator Eric Daugherty circulated the same text at 8:32 a.m. Pacific.

The President wrote that everyone knows the Biden-era FBI failed to do what it should have about the lunatic who shot him. By the time he took office on January 20, most of the information was missing, altered, corrupted or gone. New material has just been found. Why was it not seen long ago? He called it a Democrat plot to get him out of the election that failed. Christopher Wray, he wrote, should pay a price for how he handled the attempt and for what he said. God bless America. The same day, federal records given to Senate Judiciary Chairman Grassley and reviewed by the New York Post and Fox showed Thomas Matthew Crooks used the alias Bob Dole for packages and gun parts; his father told the FBI he had almost no friends in school; the body was cremated in under two weeks, paid for by an anonymous donor. The parents were not working. Rep. Clay Higgins had already protested that the release was too fast for further tests. Public files still name no political sponsor, partner or person with advance knowledge. Officials still call the motive unsettled.

Attorney General Todd Blanche later said the FBI has found new material on Crooks. He did not treat that as a legal finding that the shooting was a Democratic coup.

An attempt on a presidential nominee is not a street crime. A roof that could be climbed, files that do not match after the fact, an anonymously paid cremation, gun parts under an alias — these are facts that must be cleared, not moods. President Trump put the bill on the Biden-era FBI and on Wray because the files were already broken when he took office. The breakage is the problem. Material that surfaces two years later means it was not invisible. It was not investigated as an attempt on the man who would lead the country.
