At 7:29 a.m. PDT on October 3, Eric Daugherty posted on X with a clip of about 71 seconds. He said ICE agents arrested a Chinese national outside Los Angeles International Airport before dawn. A bystander watched. The woman being taken asked them to call 911 first. In the frame, she resists.

The post does not give a charge, a warrant, or an ICE bulletin. What the clip shows is the scene. Her English is fluent. That is not the English of someone who landed last week. She has been in this country for years. When the agents took her, she seemed not to know what she had done wrong. She sounded like a person asking why.

That is the sad part. An illegal overstay is still an illegal overstay after years of fluent English. Not knowing where the wrong is, and standing on the arrest as if the arrest were the offense, is a worse ignorance than a missing stamp. A person can live here long enough to sound local, and still not have learned the one rule that let her stay or told her to leave.

Daugherty added his own lines: Governor Newsom cannot save her, she is going back, and airports are becoming nearly impossible for illegal aliens and alien criminals to pass through. Those lines are his. The fact in the frame is simpler. She was taken at the curb, before dawn, and she seemed not to know why.

Tianwang reported the other end of this line on September 14. Homeland Security warned sanctuary judges after a Massachusetts judge let a man slip out the back door to avoid ICE. Helping an illegal alien escape immigration officers is a felony, the department said. An arrest at the airport curb, and a warning to the judge who opens the back door, are the same enforcement. Neither one is cured by years of living here, or by a shout of 911.
