On Sunday, October 18, 2026, a Bible study in the Seattle area taught on “The Word and the Light.” The lesson began with John 1: the life was in him, and that life was the light of men; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it; to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. The disciples who received this light were to become the light of the world and be sent out as witnesses.
美西时间2026年10月18日主日，西雅图地区一场查经课讲《道与光》。课从约翰福音1章起，一路讲到：生命在他里头，这生命就是人的光；光照在黑暗里，黑暗却不接受光；凡接待他的，就是信他名的人，他就赐他们权柄作神的儿女。门徒领受这光之后，要成为世上的光，并被差遣出去作见证。
The lesson did not stop at matching one verse to one event. It brought people before the light and asked how they should live today. One point stayed with the listener: people do not know the Word, and therefore do not recognize God, yet they prefer to embrace the darkness.
这堂课没有停在“哪句话对上哪件事”。它把人带到光面前，问今天该怎么活。有一段话让人记得清楚：人们不认识道，因而认不出上帝，却喜欢拥抱黑暗。
A qualified Christian first distinguishes two kinds of light.
合格的基督徒，首先要分清两种光。

The general light is given to everyone: the image of God, conscience, and the created world. This light is real, but it does not by itself save. It cannot alone make a person a child of God. Being a good person or acknowledging that life comes from a God is not the same as receiving the light of salvation. The light of salvation is the Son himself. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” This light is received only by those who believe in his name. He gives them the right to become children of God. A qualified Christian does not begin with “how many good things I have done,” but with “whether I have received this light.”
普遍之光是人人都有的：神的形象、良心、被造的世界。这光是真实的，但它本身不救人，不能单靠它使人成为神的儿女。做一个好人、承认生命来自一位神，不等于领受了救恩之光。救恩之光是子自己。耶稣说：“我是世界的光。跟从我的，就不在黑暗里走，必要得着生命的光。”这光只有信他名的人才能领受。他赐给他们权柄作神的儿女。合格的基督徒不是从“我做了多少好事”开始，而是从“我是否接待了这光”开始。
The light came into the world through the Son, Jesus Christ. Yet the world hates the light and hates Jesus Christ, because people fear that their evil deeds will be exposed. Those who live by the truth of Jesus Christ and believe in him come to the light. John 3:19–21 says: “This is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.” Light and truth cannot be separated, because light reveals the true nature of all things. Jesus Christ came so that whoever believes in him may not remain in darkness (John 12:46). People who do not know the Word do not recognize God. They see the light and still choose the darkness.
光借着子耶稣基督来到世界，但世界恨这光，也恨耶稣基督，因为他们怕自己的恶行被光照出来。凡凭耶稣基督的真理而活、信他的门徒，就来就光。约翰福音3章19至21节说：光来到世间，世人因自己的行为是恶的，不爱光倒爱黑暗。凡作恶的便恨光，并不来就光，恐怕他的行为受责备。但行真理的必来就光，要显明他所行的是靠神而行。光与真理分不开，因为光照出一切事物的真相。耶稣基督到世上来，乃是光，叫凡信他的，不住在黑暗里（约翰福音12章46节）。人们不认识道，就认不出上帝。他们看见光，仍选择拥抱黑暗。
Paul also calls people to walk as children of light and to expose the works of darkness. Ephesians 5:8–13 says: “For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them… But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light.”
保罗也呼召人作为光明的子女而活，并把暗昧的行为指出来。以弗所书5章8至13节说：从前你们是暗昧的，但如今在主里面是光明的，行事为人就当像光明的子女。光明所结的果子就是一切良善、公义、诚实。那暗昧无益的事，不要与人同行，倒要责备行这事的人……凡事受了责备，就被光显明出来，因为一切能显明的就是光。
John the Baptist was sent. His name means “God is gracious.” He knew he was not the light, but a witness to the light. He called people to repentance and pointed them to the one who was coming after him—Jesus Christ. Jesus came and finished the work given him on earth, accomplishing salvation for all who believe. Disciples are also sent by God. Like John, they point those around them to Jesus Christ. He bore witness to the light that the darkness cannot overcome. The work of a disciple is the same: to bear witness to the light that has come into one’s own life, and through the light of Christ shining through oneself, to make the works of darkness visible. John pointed out the sin of Herod the tetrarch and was martyred. The Greek word for “witness” (martureō) later came to carry the sense of “martyr,” because many believers gave their lives for the testimony they bore.
施洗约翰是被差遣的。他的名字意思是“神是有恩惠的”。他知道自己不是那光，只是为光作见证。他呼召人悔改，并指向他以后要来的那一位——耶稣基督。耶稣来了，完成了地上的工作，为一切信的人成就了救恩。门徒也是被神差遣的。像约翰一样，把耶稣基督指给周围的人看。他为那不能被黑暗胜过的光作了见证。门徒的工作也是如此：为自己生命里所来的光作见证，并借着透过自己照出来的基督之光，把黑暗的行为显明出来。约翰指出分封王希律的罪，结果殉道。希腊文“作见证”（martureō）后来渐渐有了“殉道”的意思，因为有许多信徒为所作的见证付出了生命。
A qualified Christian understands: one is called out of darkness into his marvelous light, not to hide, but to proclaim the excellencies of him who called (1 Peter 2:9). We have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which we do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in our hearts (2 Peter 1:19). The truth of this light is what we witness. We continue to expose the lies and evil deeds of the darkness until the Lord returns in glory.
合格的基督徒明白：自己被召出黑暗、入奇妙光明，不是为了把自己藏起来，而是要宣扬那召他的主的美德（彼得前书2章9节）。我们并有先知更确的预言，如同灯照在暗处。你们在这预言上留意，直等到天发亮，晨星在你们心里出现的时候，才是好的（彼得后书1章19节）。这真理之光既是我们所见证的，就要继续把黑暗的谎言和恶行显明出来，直到主在荣耀里再来。
A qualified Christian therefore has a clear mission: not merely to study past fulfillments, not merely to keep the light hidden at home, but to understand that one has been sent, to bear witness to this light today, and to expose the darkness. God gives life not so that people only check chronologies. The life was in him, and that life was the light of men. Those who believe do not remain in darkness. You are the light of the world. People who do not know the Word do not recognize God and prefer to embrace the darkness. Those who have received the light are sent to make that darkness visible.
合格的基督徒因此有清楚的使命：不是只研究过去的应验，不是只把光藏在自己家里，而是明白自己被差遣，要在今天为这光作见证，把黑暗照出来。上帝给人生命，不是让人只核对年表。生命在他里头，这生命就是人的光。信的人不住在黑暗里。你们是世上的光。人们不认识道，就认不出上帝，却喜欢拥抱黑暗。领受了光的人被差遣出去，要把那黑暗显明出来。
This lesson brought people to this point. If one leaves with only another set of verse correspondences, one is still standing in history. If one leaves clearer about whether one has received this light, whether one is walking in the light today, and whether one is willing to be sent out as a witness while others still embrace the darkness, that is what a qualified Christian is to learn and consider.
这堂课把人带到这里。离开时若只多了一份经文对应，那还是停在历史上。离开时若更清楚自己是否已领受这光、今天是否走在光中、是否愿意被差遣出去作见证，而周围仍有人拥抱黑暗，那才是合格的基督徒所要学习和思考的。
