At about 1:20 p.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday, September 1, President Donald J. Trump posted a long message on Truth Social titled “We are unleashing American Energy Dominance!” He said he would meet refiners and distributors that day on expanding U.S. refining capacity, with the goal of lowering gasoline prices.

President Trump wrote that prior Democratic policies had closed refineries and chilled new investment, and that the United States must rebuild refining capacity. Near-term steps include raising output and sending more Venezuelan crude to U.S. plants. He said that under his watch America is now the leading producer and exporter of oil and natural gas.

The post framed energy dominance as a pocketbook issue: lower utility and fuel bills, more high-paying energy jobs, less dependence on foreign supply. He cited last year’s reopening of federal land and offshore areas, faster permits for oil, gas and coal, a declared national energy emergency, and a “drill, baby, drill” push.

- Record LNG exports in 2025, with the United States the first country to ship more than 100 million metric tons in a year; April 2025 crude and petroleum exports at an all-time high.
- An Energy Information Administration forecast of record natural-gas output in 2026–2027.
- Hundreds of millions of acres opened; more than 6,100 federal-land drilling permits, about 64% above the prior-year period.
- Rollbacks of rules on everyday products, which he said save families thousands of dollars a year.
- EPA rescinding the Obama-era Endangerment Finding, which he said avoids more than $1.3 trillion in costs; a rollback of Biden-era CAFE standards.
- Halting the Biden electric-vehicle mandate and charger program, which the post said spent about $7.5 billion and had built only eight stations as of May 2024.

President Trump said more production and less red tape would lift growth, help workers and manufacturers, and serve the national interest. Critics typically ask how the barrels and contracts will actually be delivered, what the environmental cost will be, and whether some figures count promised supply as oil already in hand. As of publication the post did not attach an independent audit.
