President Trump recently shared a report restating that former U.S. Marine Robert Gilman has been freed from a Russian prison and is home. The White House said he is the 109th American brought home in President Trump’s second term. Russia released him on humanitarian grounds and asked for no one in return.

On Tuesday, August 11, President Trump posted on Truth Social that an American citizen and former Marine, Robert Gilman, was coming home. After talks with President Vladimir Putin, he wrote, Russia agreed to release him “very much on a Humanitarian Basis.” “We appreciate this decision, and the fact that Russia asked for no one in return — No exchange took place.”
吉尔曼现年32岁，马萨诸塞州人，曾短期服役于海军陆战队，后在俄罗斯教英语。2022年1月，他在前往莫斯科美国大使馆途中，于沃罗涅日被俄警方拘留。俄方称其醉酒袭击警察；家属始终否认，称当时他身体不适，接触出于意外。他先被判四年半，后又因所谓袭击狱警加刑。家属和倡导者称其在狱中健康急剧恶化，今年6月一度陷入木僵。
Gilman, 32, of Massachusetts, served briefly in the Marines and later taught English in Russia. In January 2022, while traveling toward the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, he was detained by police in Voronezh. Russia said he assaulted an officer while drunk. His family has always denied that account, saying he was ill and any contact was accidental. He was first sentenced to four and a half years, then given more time on a later charge of assaulting a guard. Family and advocates said his health collapsed in prison and that he entered a stupor in June.

国务卿鲁比奥8月11日发表声明：吉尔曼被关四年多后，正在回家与家人团聚；感谢俄方与特使史蒂夫·威特科夫（Steve Witkoff）合作，使他能在美国接受治疗。声明同时说，美方仍要求立即释放其他被不当关押的美国人，包括斯蒂芬·哈伯德（Stephen Hubbard）。“总统不会停，直到所有被不当关押的美国人都回家。”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on August 11 that after more than four years Gilman was on his way home, and thanked Russia for working with Special Envoy Steve Witkoff so he could get medical care in the United States. Rubio added that the United States still seeks the immediate return of other Americans held wrongfully, including Stephen Hubbard. “The President will not stop until all unjustly detained Americans are home.”
吉尔曼乘坐国务院飞机离开俄罗斯，抵达华盛顿附近的杜勒斯机场。威特科夫到场迎接。川普总统说他已与吉尔曼通话，吉尔曼只提了一个要求：落地后要一个“很棒的芝士汉堡”。
Gilman left Russia on a State Department aircraft and landed at Dulles Airport near Washington. Witkoff met him there. President Trump said he had spoken with Gilman, whose one request was “A GREAT cheeseburger” when he landed.

The White House framed the release as part of an “America First” effort: do not trade away Americans as bargaining chips, and keep pressing and talking until they come home. President Trump thanked Witkoff, senior counterterrorism official Sebastian Gorka, envoy Adam Boehler, and Jared Kushner among those who worked the case.
