President Trump Rejects “Out of Ammunition” Reports: Mid-to-High-Grade Stocks Nearly Unlimited; Calls Persistent Claims Treasonous

On the morning of Thursday, September 3, President Trump posted twice on Truth Social against reports that U.S. forces in the Iran campaign had “no ammunition.” The short post said those who keep harping on an empty magazine are 100 percent wrong; they would rather see the United States lose a war it is “easily winning” than see him win. He called that treasonous.

The longer post fixed the numbers in political language: the United States has “virtually unlimited” mid-to-high-grade ammunition, more than this Iran operation or any improbable second war could use; munitions are being produced at levels “never seen before,” stockpiled for any contingency; production is being kept for the United States first, with sales to allies to resume soon. The Biden administration, he wrote, gave Ukraine and NATO more munitions free of charge than America has used in Iran; Europe would have paid if asked, and Washington will ask, even late.

He named no masthead. The reports that match his anger are last summer’s shortage files:

  • Reuters, Aug. 4: sources said the Army had used “virtually all” ATACMS and PrSM long-range precision missiles, and a little less than half the global Tomahawk stock.
  • CNN, July 29 and Aug. 4: sources called stocks “dangerously low”; THAAD interceptors down nearly four-fifths from pre-war levels, Patriots about half.
  • CSIS in July: Patriots from about 2,200 before the war to about 759–827 by late July; THAAD from about 452 to about 234–278.
  • The Atlantic and others followed, saying long-range stocks were too thin for an Asia contingency.

【Photo 3: A Patriot battery. Summer shortage files from Reuters, CNN and CSIS mostly named THAAD, Patriot and long-range precision missiles, not rifle rounds.】

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth called the CNN banner untrue. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said shortage claims were false and that amplifying them emboldens the enemy. In August the president already wrote that “leakers” were being hunted. No public classified inventory has been released. The shortage files rest on unnamed sources and think-tank estimates. Today’s posts rest on production, stockpiling and “virtually unlimited” mid-to-high-grade rounds. Neither side has laid THAAD, Patriot, Tomahawk and ordinary bombs in separate columns for the public.

What those files call “not enough” is mostly slow, expensive interceptors and long-range missiles, not rifle cartridges. An adversary wants three sentences: Can America still shoot? Will it flinch first? Will the home front crack first? Posting the capability table burns interceptors faster and splits morale at home. When the front is in contact and the rear shouts “we are empty” toward Tehran, that is not oversight. That is a second front.

Tianwang’s view: The facts owed to the American people and the armed forces come in three layers. First, the president drew a hard line today: mid-to-high-grade stocks are enough, production is up, America keeps them first, and repeating “we are empty” helps the other side and breaks our own. Second, Reuters, CNN and CSIS published estimates of particular missiles, not a certified national magazine; the Pentagon denies them; Congress and auditors should reconcile the books in a secure room, not on the evening news for the enemy. Third, while the front bleeds, the rear’s job is to fill the bins, open the lines and keep tactical numbers off the opponent’s desk. A war that should be won is won when the rounds are in the pit, the next strike can fly, and the country does not call a halt for the enemy. Leak, and prosecute. Produce, and ship. Do not make a soldier hear “we are out” from home before he hears it from the sky.
