At 2:37 p.m. PDT on October 4, Katie K USA posted what she called an exclusive statement from Homeland Security on the arrest of Jing Zhao, an illegal alien from China. “On October 3, ICE arrested Jing Zhao, an illegal alien from China. Zhao initially entered the United States in September 2017 with permission to stay on a temporary basis. Against our nation’s laws, she failed to depart and has been living in the United States illegally.”

The statement adds the line that answers the scene. “To be clear: a pending application does not confer legal status.” Homeland Security says it has reversed the Biden-era policy that let people in the country illegally fly around inside it. Under President Trump, they will no longer be allowed to fly unless the flight is out of the country, to self-deport. Detention, the department says, is a choice. The CBP Home app offers $3,000 and a free flight to leave now, and a chance to return the legal way. If not, arrest and deportation, with no chance to come back.

Tianwang reported the scene on October 3. Before dawn, outside Los Angeles International Airport, ICE took a Chinese woman. She asked a bystander to call 911. Her English was fluent. She seemed not to know what she had done wrong, and she resisted. The post that day had no name and no charge. Today’s statement gives the name, the year, and the status: Jing Zhao, in since 2017, still here after the permission ended.

This is not the arrest later the same weekend inside the terminal. That one was Wanying Zhang, the Irvine realtor, stopped on a flight to Shanghai and charged as an unregistered Chinese agent. Two women, two agencies, two days. Zhao is the curb. Zhang is the complaint.
