一场主日讲道把旧约的交棒、美国开国总统的告别，和耶稣对门徒的托付连在一起，核心只有一句：自由若没有信仰和美德作根基，就传不给下一代。
A Sunday sermon joined the handing-on of the torch in the Old Testament, the farewell of America’s first president, and Jesus’ charge to His disciples. The core was one sentence: freedom without faith and virtue as its foundation cannot be passed to the next generation.

牧师从大卫对所罗门的嘱咐讲起。材料齐了，图纸也有了，神仍对所罗门说：要刚强，要勇敢。勇气不是为了搬石头，而是因为神呼召人去做的事，必有拦阻。牧师说得很直：对神的顺服，就是对魔鬼的对抗。犯罪不必刻意，那是人的本性；离开罪却必须立志。人不会“跌出罪来”，只能转身、起来、反向而行。
The pastor began with David’s charge to Solomon. The materials were ready, the plans were there, and God still said to Solomon: be strong and courageous. Courage is not for moving stones. It is needed because whatever God calls a person to do will meet resistance. The pastor put it plainly: obedience to God is opposition to the devil. Sin needs no special effort; it is human nature. Leaving sin requires a will. A person does not “fall out of sin.” One must turn, stand up, and walk the other way.
同一条命令，摩西对约书亚说过，大卫对所罗门说过，耶稣在约翰福音十四章也对门徒说过：不要惧怕，因为有保惠师与你们同在。火炬就这样传下来——从领袖到领袖，从基督到门徒，再传到今天每一个家庭。问题不再是“你有没有接到”，而是“你有没有传出去”。
The same command was spoken by Moses to Joshua, by David to Solomon, and by Jesus to the disciples in John 14: do not be afraid, for the Helper is with you. That is how the torch is passed—from leader to leader, from Christ to the disciples, and on to every household today. The question is no longer whether you received it, but whether you have passed it on.
牧师特别提到乔治·华盛顿的告别演说。这篇文献每年仍在国会被朗读。华盛顿警告：宗教与道德是政治繁荣不可缺少的支柱；若有人一面拆毁这两根柱子，一面还自称爱国，那是徒然。他又问：难道天意没有把一个民族的持久幸福，和它的美德连在一起吗？牧师指出，华盛顿的告别和大卫在历代志上二十八章的嘱咐，同属一个模式：离去的领袖回顾神的带领，警告未来的危险，呼召守约，把前途交给下一代。
The pastor turned especially to George Washington’s Farewell Address, still read each year in Congress. Washington warned that religion and morality are indispensable supports of political prosperity; it is vain for a man to claim patriotism while pulling down those two pillars. He asked whether Providence has not connected the lasting happiness of a nation with its virtue. The pastor said Washington’s farewell and David’s charge in 1 Chronicles 28 belong to one pattern: a departing leader reviews God’s leading, warns of coming danger, calls for covenant-keeping, and hands the future to the next generation.

牧师随即接到耶稣的话。约翰福音十五章十六节说：不是你们拣选了我，是我拣选了你们，并且分派你们去结果子，叫你们的果子常存。华盛顿说没有美德，幸福站不住；耶稣说没有与祂相连，果子留不住。一个从国家说，一个从生命说，问的是同一件事：什么东西能够传下去？
He then took up Jesus’ words. John 15:16 says: you did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain. Washington said happiness cannot stand without virtue. Jesus said fruit cannot remain without abiding in Him. One speaks of a nation, the other of a life. Both ask the same thing: what can actually be passed on?
牧师刚从基辅回来。乌克兰人在战火中庆祝独立三十五年，美国则在纪念独立二百五十年。数字不同，问题相同：自由怎样交给孩子？他的回答很硬——不在投票箱里决定，也不在华盛顿特区决定，而在人心里，在家里。 下一代继承的，不应只是积蓄，而应是一个塑造了你怎样活的信仰：全心爱神，顺服祂的话，渴慕祂的同在，并且有勇气去做。
The pastor had just returned from Kyiv. Ukrainians were marking thirty-five years of independence under fire; America was marking two hundred and fifty years. The numbers differ; the question is the same: how is freedom handed to the children? His answer was hard: not at the ballot box, and not in Washington, D.C., but in the heart and in the home. What the next generation should inherit is not only savings, but a faith that shaped how you lived: loving God with the whole heart, obeying His word, desiring His presence, and having courage to act.

他点名父母、祖父母和青少年。年轻人已经在选择自己要跑怎样的赛程，将来也会把棒交出去。最后他带领会众作了一个宣告：深深依赖神，顺服祂的话，寻求祂的同在，勇敢站立。随后为尚未信主的人祷告，也为已经信了却缺少勇气的人求一副“软心肠、钢脊梁”，从家庭开始活出信仰。
He addressed parents, grandparents and young people. The young are already choosing what race they will run, and they too will one day hand on the baton. He then led the congregation in a declaration: to depend deeply on God, obey His word, seek His presence, and stand with courage. He prayed for those who have not yet believed, and for those who believe but lack courage, asking for a “soft heart and a steel spine,” that faith would be lived first in the home.
这场讲道的分量，不在辞藻，而在它把荣光和责任放回原处。神的恩典是真的，自由也值得庆祝；但若只讲享受，不讲顺服，只讲合一，不讲是非，火炬传到手里也会熄。教会可以引路，也可以迷路。所传若不分对错，受影响的不只是会众，还有家庭和社会的风气。
The weight of the sermon was not in ornament. It put glory and duty back in their place. God’s grace is real, and freedom is worth celebrating; but if enjoyment is preached without obedience, and unity without right and wrong, the torch goes out in the hand that received it. A church can lead, and it can also lead astray. If what is preached will not tell right from wrong, the harm is not only to the congregation, but to the air of the family and of society.
这篇讲道正好与天网日前关于教会的评论衔接：不是所有讲台都会迷路。当牧师把圣经讲全，把勇气、顺服与交棒讲清楚，教会就能给人们指明正路，而不再把人留在含糊的宗教语言里。
This sermon joins the earlier Tianwang comment on the church: not every pulpit leads astray. When a pastor preaches the whole word, and speaks clearly of courage, obedience and handing on the torch, the church can show people the right path, instead of leaving them inside vague religious language.
能辨，才谈得上真信；能分，才谈得上把自由真正传下去。
Without discernment there is no true faith; without distinction, freedom cannot truly be passed on.
