On Monday, September 21, CNN, Politico, and MSNOW (formerly MSNBC) filed an emergency suit in federal court in Washington. They want the weekend ban lifted and their reporters put back in the White House. President Trump answered the same day on Truth Social: he will fight, and if the first court rules against him he will appeal.

The case is before Judge Timothy J. Kelly, a Trump first-term appointee. In 2018 Kelly ordered the White House to restore CNN correspondent Jim Acosta’s pass. President Trump wrote that the three outlets “drew a great judge — for them.” Named defendants include the president, communications director Steven Cheung, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, and Secret Service Director Sean Curran.

He again named Politico’s roughly $8 million Biden-era government subscription. He listed his 2024 math: all seven swing states, the popular vote, the Electoral College 312–226, about 86% of counties — and what he called 94% negative coverage.

A press that cannot report a landslide without calling it a crisis has already spent its credit. Decorum is not censorship. The Oval Office is not a public sidewalk.

The three outlets can sue. The people can still read who asked to be let back in — and why they were told no. Fake news is a threat to democracy because it steals the public’s ability to see. That is what President Trump is fighting.
