On September 25, the Supreme Court, 6–3, stayed a June order that had blocked the Trump administration’s modified SAVE system. President Trump called it fantastic news for America. Commentator Eric Daugherty circulated the ruling on X at about 5:33 a.m. Pacific on September 26.

SAVE is the DHS Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements database. It has checked immigration status for benefits for decades. This term the administration expanded it: U.S.-born citizen records, Social Security numbers, more than one search at a time. District Judge Sparkle Sooknanan in Washington barred it on June 22. Friday’s unsigned majority said the ban blocks the federal duty to help states verify citizenship. Justices Jackson, Kagan, and Sotomayor dissented.

Only citizens vote. A tool that lets a state ask “is this person a citizen?” is not a coup. A state that refuses the tool is making a choice, not a constitutional discovery. Open SAVE. Publish the mismatches. Count what the clerks remove. Do not wait for another November to find out who was on the book.
