At 12:04 p.m. Pacific Time on September 27, Elon Musk quoted his mother, Maye Musk, and wrote two lines. By afternoon the post showed about 1.6 million views.

Maye’s post was shorter. She voted in New York. She showed ID. The woman at the table was angry and hit it away.

The statute is narrower than Musk’s two lines. New York and California do not, in most cases, require a photo ID at the poll. Poll-worker manuals say: if the roll does not mark “ID required,” do not ask. California in 2024 also barred local governments from adding their own ID rule. State offices have told reporters that a voter who volunteers an ID is not breaking the law. Some New York counties even let a driver license be scanned to find the name faster — they still may not make it a condition of voting.

Write the three layers separately. The law took universal checks off the door. The manual told the clerk not to ask. The window then punished the person who still held out a card. A honest voter did extra work and was treated as a nuisance. The next person learns: put the card away. That is not a section titled “mandatory fraud.” It is a slope. On that slope, the person who wants to be identified is the one who gets hit.

The same weekend the Court, 6–3, gave states back SAVE — a tool to ask whether a name on the roll is a citizen. Musk that morning warned that legalizing 7 to 10 million people would lock a one-party state. This afternoon he points at the other hinge: if the door will not look at a card, the roll is only a list of signatures.

His clip showed California (54 House seats) and New York (28) in blue.

Two different “SAVE.” The system in last week’s Court order is DHS SAVE: it asks whether a name on the roll is a citizen. The SAVE America Act (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act) is a House bill: proof of citizenship to register, photo ID to vote. President Trump has also asked that no-excuse mail ballots be cut to a few exceptions. The House passed it 218–213 in February 2026. The Senate has not. Daugherty’s call to halt USPS ballots is a slogan, not a standing federal order. Elections are run by the states.

Maye did what an adult citizen should do. She proved who she was. The window knocked the proof away. Encourage that once, and honest people stop offering proof. People who do not want to be known keep walking in. You do not need a statute called “mandatory fraud.” You only need a door that punishes the ones who tell the truth.
梅耶做了成年公民该做的事。她证明自己是谁。窗口把证明打掉。鼓励一次，诚实的人就不再递。不愿被认出的人继续往里走。不必单独立一部“强制舞弊法”。只要门口专打说实话的人，就够了。
Musk named the door. Daugherty named the mailbox. One system checks the roll. One bill would check the person. Until both exist, a card can still be knocked away, and a ballot can still arrive with no face attached.

November 3 is not only a date. It is whether the name on the book can still be checked.
