At 9:53 a.m. PDT on October 1, reporter Nick Sortor posted on X with a clip of about 30 seconds. He said President Trump confirmed that preemptive pardons are on the table, because Democrats will go after current officials if they retake the presidency.

The officials in question are the ones who cut hard to drain the Washington swamp. That work made enemies. Left-wing Democrats have already treated prosecution as a political weapon. If they take the presidency again, retaliation against these officials is not a guess. It is the pattern.

Sortor quoted President Trump: “Based on Biden, I can do whatever I want, because he certainly pardoned a lot of people. He pardoned everybody of note.”

President Trump was pointing to a precedent, not announcing a signed pardon. Before leaving office in January 2025, Biden issued preemptive pardons for Anthony Fauci, people tied to congressional investigations, and members of his own family. Those pardons covered federal conduct not yet charged, and were meant to block the next administration.

The two uses are not the same. Biden pardoned the people under investigation. President Trump is talking about shielding the people who did the investigating and the reforming. The officials who stood with him, and took the personal risk, should not have to face a political case for draining the swamp.

Sortor called Fauci a pardoned murderer. That line is his own. Fauci has no murder conviction. What Biden gave him was a preemptive pardon, not a pardon for murder. A moral judgment does not need a judge’s stamp. Fauci spoke as if masks and transmission were settled, then changed course; he said the vaccines would stop transmission, and they did not; he and colleagues pushed the lab leak aside as a conspiracy theory. Lockdowns and school closures cost children and the poor the most.

A preemptive pardon blocks federal prosecution. It does not stop a state case, and it does not stop the public from judging. Sortor said such pardons would not be needed for at least a couple more years. The point of putting them on the table now is plain: President Trump intends to protect the anti-corruption allies who risked themselves with him.
